Not quite sure what it is – maybe some sort of gospel song thingy – but it’s actually quite a bit better than some of Marty Haugen’s stuff…

My husband loves Marty Haugen.
Nooooooo, aka theMom! Say it isn’t so!
Then it’s a good thing we don’t worship your husband.
Lol! This is better than a good portion of The Gather hymnal!
Maybe it beez an Easter song, drawing on the new translation of the Exsultet!

“accept this candle, a solemn offering,
the work of bees and of your servants’ hands,
[...]
for it is fed by melting wax,
drawn out by mother bees to build a torch so precious.”
Yay! I love the Exsultet! Especially with the bees! I wrote about it this past Easter season: http://wp.me/plGeP-gY
From You Tube. There’s actually a good message in Beez in the Church. A line from the song: “I will never overdose on the Holy Ghost medicine”.
Jimmy Buffet he’s not.
I have no clue who Marty Haugen is, but if “Beez in the Church!!!!” is “actually quite a bit better than some of Marty Haugen’s stuff ” I don’t want to know who he is. That has to be the worse song ever…religious or otherwise. I’m too frightened to even look at that video.
I saw a youth group from a vibrant New Orleans inner city parish perform a rap they had written and choreographed. It wasn’t part of Mass, but was performed at a dinner for youth who had served for 10 days. It was awesome — they had taken ownership of following Christ, serving Him, and being part of parish life, and shared their expression of love with everyone at the dinner. So I knew what this was right away.
It’s rap, yo! And it is probably not intended for Mass, but as an expression of devotion by a particular subset of the Church. As such, it’s wonderful.
