…where I talk about an American Classic – The Push Reel Mower – and how my experience with my newly-purchased one provided me the opportunity to consider how our culture is quick to disregard simplicity because of presumed inconveniences.  Give it a read!

  1. You are so green. Fr. Eric must be proud, I know I am. I thought you were gone for the holiday – Cath and I were gonna drive up.

  2. Thanks for the journey from push-reel mowers, to…Eco-Goats. I was more impressed with the goats, as they use their teeth. ;) Regarding stewardship, God did tell us to “fill the Earth and subdue it”. The problem is, many people seem to think “subdue” and “slaughter” are interchangeable. :( I’m just wondering, is their any member of the animal kingdom that maybe, just maybe…helps with housekeeping? Anyway, enjoy your experience returning the the days of yore. BTW your lawn looks great!

  3. Last year, after our lawn mower was stolen and we needed to replace it, I purchased a push reel mower for basically the same reasons you mention. However, my experience with the mower was a disaster. Unfortunately, my lawn has far too many undesirables (weeds) growing everywhere and the push reel mower could not handle them. I suppose, if I had actual grass growing in the yard, the mower might be fine.
We immediately returned it to Lowe’s and purchased a proper gas-powered mower.
